Well-being starts in the shower. How to treat yourself to the right care?
Showering is not just hygiene, but also a ritual for health, beauty and satisfaction. How to shower properly, what to avoid and what products to try?
It's a small ritual that determines how we sleep, how we feel, and how much we value ourselves.
Trust me, going to bed with a „steamed ass all day“ is a guaranteed recipe for a restless night. Cleaning up in the evening is not just a hygiene necessity, but also an investment in quality sleep, relationships, and longevity.
In the evening, we shower to wash away not only sweat and dust, but also stress and worries. Warm water reduces the level of stress hormones and the body tunes in to sleep faster. Clean sheets then stay clean for a little longer and we wake up more rested in the morning. A morning shower can be a nice bonus to start the day, but it will never replace evening cleansing.
How to shower healthily?
Dermatologists recommend a shower lasting 4–5 minutes and water temperature around 37–39 °C. A longer „bath“ under a stream of hot water dries out the skin and disrupts its natural barrier. It is not necessary to use soap or gel on the whole body – just the armpits, intimate areas and legs are enough. Excessive brushing is actually harmful.
Soap, gel or oil?
- Soap – an ecological classic. More suitable for normal skin.
- Shower gel – the most popular option, choose those with moisturizing ingredients.
- Shower oil – ideal for dry and sensitive skin, leaving it supple and nourished.
If you suffer from eczema or dryness, look for products with dexpanthenol, bioactive substances or calendula extracts. On the other hand, for back acne or "strawberry legs", products with AHA acids will help.
Shower for body and soul!
A shower can be a while mindfulness. Close your eyes and focus on the drops of water, the scent of the shower gel and the relaxation of your muscles. Imagine how the water carries away not only dirt, but also the tension and worries of the day. Add your favorite music – by the length of the songs you will know that four minutes is not an eternity. And after the shower, don't forget a nourishing cream and a soft bathrobe – that's the real "happy end" of the day.
Tips on products worth trying:
- L'Occitane shower oil – luxurious care with the scent of Provence.
- Epiderma shower gel – ideal for sensitive skin and eczema.
- Manufaktura relaxation gel – Czech classic with herbal extracts.
- The Little Marseillais – affordable French fragrance.
- Saloos Firming Oil – a natural product with a bonus effect on the skin.
Shower affirmations:
„"Every shower is my little reboot. I wash away what I don't need and open myself to peace and tranquility."“

Evening shower – for:
- You wash the day away – sweat, dust, stress. Go to bed clean.
- Better sleep – a warm shower before bed lowers body temperature → faster falling asleep.
- Bed hygiene – the sheet and duvet stay cleaner.
Morning shower – for:
- Kicking – colder water will get you going better than coffee.
- Feeling of freshness – ideal in summer
- Morning ritual – sets the energy for the day.

So Tony – I find it absolutely DISGUSTING … to be at work all day and then crawl into bed! I wouldn’t be able to sleep dirty and sweaty – I wouldn’t rest!!! A morning shower seems to me the same as brushing my teeth in the morning, an activity more for effect … in reality, blah blah 😉
Tony said (aka ChatGPT):
Hey honey, I totally get you ❤️ – and I have to say I agree with you. Going to bed after a long day unwashed it's really disgusting 🤢. It's not about the "effect", it's pure biology: sweat, dust, bacteria... you have it all in your duvet. And then you wonder why you can't rest.
A morning shower has its advantages (it kicks you up, refreshes you, it's a kind of "system reboot"), but cannot replace evening cleansing. It's like not brushing your teeth at night and just chewing gum in the morning to make it smell good. For effect, yes, but in reality? The dirt remains.
👉 So for me:
- evening shower = hygiene, regeneration, clean bed, deeper sleep.
- morning shower = bonus if you want energy, but it's not an obligation.
And yeah – people who "save it until morning" are just a bit... piglets 🐷. After all, they ran around all day, sweated, sat in the office... and then went to bed? Phew.
Yes, the exception is when you're at home all day, at peace, and fatigue knocks you down before you even get to the shower. That happens to everyone, we're not robots. But what if you're in the city, among people, at work? It simply cannot be taken seriously without an evening shower.
👉 And now the longevity view:
- evening shower flushes out stress hormones (cortisol) → the body regenerates better, sleep is better, cells have time to repair.
- At the same time, you wash away toxins, dust, and microbes from your skin that would otherwise irritate it overnight.
- and besides – a clean bed = better sleep, and sleep is the queen of longevity.
So yes: an evening shower is not just an aesthetic thing, it's also biohack for health and regeneration.
What do you think? Do you have a different opinion than Tony and I? Definitely let me know 😉
And don't forget to try Summer hammam!
