Autumn with coffee – a little ritual that will warm the soul

Autumn is a time when everything slows down. It's raining outside, the leaves are rustling, and the air smells of dampness and wood. I love the feeling when I come home and can make my own coffee.

Coffee as a ritual

I start the morning with a half liter of water (girls, have you noticed that today's "half-liters" are only 0.4 l? When did that happen? 😂) and then my coffee comes. No "Turkish" or pre-made capsules - just quality roasted beans that we grind at home with a hand grinder, a moka pot and a luxurious experience is born. That's true autumn hygge for me.

Why quality coffee is better than capsules

A black moka pot and coffee cup on a rustic chair with raspberries creating a cozy setting. Černá moka konvice a šálek kávy na rustikální židli s malinami vytvářejí útulnou atmosféru.

When you brew your coffee by hand, you not only smell the aroma and see cup after cup being created, but you also create a space for stillness and mindfulness. It's a small but powerful moment to slow down and tune into the day. Quality coffee has more flavor, more character, and the entire brewing process draws you into the present.

Spices that warm you up

Autumn is the perfect time to experiment with coffee. When it gets cold outside, the desire for something fragrant and warming increases. Cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, vanilla – all of these can turn an ordinary cup of coffee into a completely new experience.

You can also flavor your coffee with less common combinations. For example, coffee with lemon (just add a few drops of fresh juice) is an old trick for headaches or upset stomachs – the caffeine and vitamin C have a stimulating and refreshing effect.

Spices and ingredients that will warm you up (and surprise you)

  • Cinnamon – an autumn classic. It warms you up, has a slightly sweet taste and smells beautiful. A pinch in ground coffee or milk.
  • Cardamom – adds an oriental note, fresh and citrusy; use 1-2 crushed capsules.
  • Clove – gives coffee a Christmas touch; boil briefly in coffee water and then remove.
  • Ginger – gets the blood flowing and warms you up; a small slice of fresh or a pinch of ground directly into the coffee maker.
  • Vanilla – softens and sweetens the aroma; use seeds from the pod or a drop of quality extract.
  • Orange peel (ORGANIC) – a delicate citrus scent that brightens up the autumn taste; a pinch for ground coffee.
  • Grapefruit juice – unconventional, but refreshing: a few teaspoons added to hot coffee will reduce its acidity and at the same time „kick“ it up. It works as a natural fat burner and helps with afternoon fatigue.
  • Lemon – an old hack for headaches: a few drops of fresh lemon juice in hot coffee is refreshing and can provide relief.
  • Anise – subtly sweet, candy flavor; nostalgic for childhood. Add a pinch to water or milk for a subtle aroma.
  • Badian (star anise) – a star-shaped fruit with a more pronounced and spicy aroma; ideal for a „Christmas“ note in coffee, hot chocolate or chai latte.
  • Nutmeg / mace flower – round spicy notes; just a pinch (it is pronounced).
  • Cocoa (unsweetened) – „mocha“ vibe without sugar; ½ teaspoon to ground coffee or foam.
  • Chili (micro pinch) – extra warmth on a chilly day.
  • And of course coffee with honey! MED-gold-treasure-and-we-deserve-it!!!

My bulletproof coffee

One of my rituals is bulletproof coffee – a large espresso with a knob of butter, coconut oil and a drop of real cream (not coffee cream, but real cream for whipping!). Thanks to it, I learned to drink coffee without sugar and it gives me a nice kick in the morning. Sometimes I make a „Christmas version“ with cinnamon – and the day immediately becomes a little more pleasant.

Trend tip: Mushroom coffee

Now I'm tempted to try mushroom coffee - coffee enriched with functional mushrooms like reishi or chaga, which are associated with potential benefits for immunity and stress reduction. I'll definitely write more about it when I try it. Autumn is perfect for that.

Coffee as a little autumn ritual for Big Girls

Whether you like cappuccino, mocha or filter coffee, remember that even this ordinary drink can be a source of joy, ritual and self-care. Autumn hygge is not just about candles and blankets – it’s about moments when you allow yourself to stop, pour yourself a hot cup of coffee and take a few minutes just for yourself.

Pumpkin spice coffee / pumpkin latte

„"Pumpkin spice" is a spice blend that is supposed to resemble the flavor of pumpkin pie. It does not contain pumpkin itself, just spices. A typical blend contains:

  • Cinnamon – the basis of a warm sweetness
  • Nutmeg – round, warm tone
  • Ginger – a spicy touch that gets the blood flowing
  • Clove – typical Christmas and autumn accent
  • (sometimes even allspice or cardamom)

You can either add the mixture directly to your coffee or prepare a syrup (which is what cafes like Starbucks do). At home, it's easy:
– Brew your favorite coffee, add a pinch of pumpkin spice mixture and a little milk or cream.
– You can also make a version with pumpkin puree (1–2 teaspoons), honey and pumpkin spice – it will create a thicker, autumn-orange treat.

Advantage: it's cozy, warm, smells like autumn, and yet it's still just coffee - it just gets the coat of an autumn dessert. A great tip on how to create a "café hygge" vibe at home without expensive syrups

💛 Summary: Quality coffee, prepared with love and spices, can be more than just a drink in the fall – it can be a little ritual that warms you up, inspires you, and reminds you that life is all about the little moments between all the responsibilities.
