Longevity: How to live long and, most importantly, well?

 Word, which sounds sublime, almost like a supernatural ability or the secret of some old master from the East. But what is it really about? Do we want to live to be 120 and still be a lager with Alzheimer's? Well, thanks, better not! Longevity isn't just about living to a ripe old age. It's about having legs that still work when you're 90, being able to lift your grandchildren (or a glass of wine, whichever you prefer), and most importantly, keeping you thinking.

Scientists say that our body is programmed to live about 120 years. So the question is not "How can I live to see this?", but "How can I live through this with dignity and in shape?"And that's what longevity is all about - the art of aging in a way that makes it worth it!

1.Longevity isn't just about food—although it's damn important.

Yes, diet plays a key role. But it's not just what we eat, it's also when we eat and how much we put into our bodies. It all revolves around metabolic flexibility, the body's ability to burn both carbohydrates and fats. And do you know what destroys it the most? Permanent overeating! Intermittent fasting is not just a fad, but it really helps the body regenerate.

And what to eat? Quality proteins, healthy fats, no ultra-processed junkWe all know the good old saying: "You are what you eat." So if you don't want to be a chemical experiment, stick to natural foods.

2. Movement – a necessity, not a punishment

Someone says: "Sports to permanent disability." But we say: "The right move for a long life!" No sport is perfect, so a combination of several sports is ideal. Running? Great for the heart, but it destroys the joints. Yoga? Great for flexibility, but it won't strengthen your muscles. Weight training? Perfect for muscles, but it won't improve your cardio.

So what to do? A mix of everything. Walking, swimming, yoga, light weight training – we need muscles even after menopause. Watching endless TV series where the main character is constantly deciding whether to marry an evil billionaire or a good poor man, is not a mental activity! The brain needs stimulation. Reading, Sudoku, chess, journaling, learning new things. And you know what else? Computer games! (Yes, really!).

Games promote quick decision-making, strategic thinking, and improve reflexes and coordination. Don't you believe it? Even armies around the world use them for training!

And what if you're not into shooters? Try Mahjong. My mom has been playing it for years, and trust me, that woman could easily outsmart any chess grandmaster.

4. Stress – the silent killer of longevity

Do you want to live a long life? Then get rid of stress. Cortisol (the stress hormone) is a disaster for our body. It destroys immunity, causes fat storage (especially in the belly!) and accelerates aging.

What about it? Learn to say NO, relax regularly, meditate, spend time with loved ones and most importantly – have something that you enjoy and fulfill.

And if you wake up in the morning with the thought: "Back to work?!" Maybe it's time for a change. Life is too short to do something that destroys us!

5. Sleep – the basis of regeneration and anti-aging strategy!

Sleep is not a luxury, but a necessity. Quality sleep is the key to longevity. Without it, immunity decreases, memory deteriorates, and the body wears out faster.

Do you want to sleep better?

  • Go to bed and wake up at the same time.
  • Avoid blue light (cell phone, TV) before bed.
  • A cool room and silence are essential.
  • Alcohol and heavy food at night? No, no, no!
