50+ and invisible? We created this world!

Generation X: A bridge between the worlds of the past and the future

People born between 1965 and 1980 are like technological time travelers – they have experienced a world without the internet, but at the same time have perfectly adapted to the digital era. They are the last generation to remember a childhood without social media, smartphones and Netflix, but at the same time the first to learn to live with them.

They grew up on radio, VHS tapes, Nokia 3310 , Tetris ..

and today they effortlessly master streaming services, social networks and virtual reality. They are a unique bridge between traditional values and modern technologies – they understand both worlds and can combine the best of both. Unlike the older generation, who took things as they are, and the younger generation, who no longer turn to traditions.

Gen X can think critically, evaluate the past, and shape the future.

Because of this, it should play a key role in where the world is headed. Remember when we were little girls and we believed that when we were adults, the world would be at our feet? Well… And then we grew up. And we discovered that after fifty, we were suddenly like ghosts to society.

Only instead of scaring the children at night, we go to work, take care of our family, and try not to go crazy with digital banking apps.

Ladies, it's time to remember one thing - we are the ones who helped create this modern world!

Generation 40/50+ – GENERATION X!!!

is the generation that built technological advances, pushed the boundaries of medicine, and defined new standards in working life. We are women who experienced the transition from the analog to the digital world, who watched the rise of the internet, smartphones, and social media. And yet today we must defend ourselves against prejudice and discrimination because of our age.

And it's not just an impression - the numbers confirm it. The study "Perceived age discrimination across age in Europe" proves that discrimination in the Czech Republic starts earlier on the job market than in other European countries. Already, two million people aged 45 to 59 represent the strongest age group on the Czech labor market. And by 2030, the 50 to 65 age group will become the main workforce! In other words, companies will become increasingly dependent on experienced workers - and yet they reject them because of their age.

Does that make sense? Not a bit. So it's time to change that!

Ads and Trends: Where are the women 50+?

On TV, we see two main roles for women our age – we are either happy grandmas baking cakes or desperate women with joint pain who need extra strong collagen. And where are the women who still dye their hair not because they „have to“, but because they just want to be cool? Where are the campaigns that show that even at fifty we can buy luxury lipstick, not just dentures?

Fashion? Cosmetics? Yes, sometimes a model over thirty appears, who is immediately called a „bold step in advertising“. But that’s normal life. We, big girls, still like to dress up, paint, take care of ourselves. And not at all because we want to „stay young“. We simply want to look great at any age – because we have the right to!

Job market: "You have experience, but..."„

Everyone pretends that experience is important. So why is it that when we go to a job interview, we hear the magical: "You have a lot of experience, but we're looking for someone younger." Translated into normal speech: "You're too old, but we're not allowed to say that out loud, so we try to wrap it up."„

However, the reality is different. According to statistics, applicants over 40 are significantly less likely to be shortlisted than their younger colleagues. What's more, HR professionals often fail to take into account that people of this age have a desire to learn new things, adapt and improve.

Age should be an advantage, not a handicap. We are the generation that learned to move from typewriters to computers, from landlines to cell phones, and from paper maps to navigation. We are the generation that mastered multitasking before it was „trendy.“ So why should we let ourselves be shut down?

If we don't want to let this happen, we have to stand up for ourselves. Educate ourselves. Don't be afraid of technology. Have the courage to stand up for our place. Because if we know one thing for sure, it's that if we don't believe in ourselves, no one will do it for us.

Social media: Yes, we belong there!

Let’s face it. Social media isn’t just for teenagers doing weird dance moves on TikTok. How many of us have said to ourselves, „Social media isn’t for me“ – and then secretly follow recipes, fashion tips and cute puppy videos? That’s right! 😁

We have something to tell the world. Why should there only be 20-year-old influencers who can give advice on how to survive a hangover, but not 50-year-old women who can give advice on how to survive a busy day with family, work, and still manage to draw lines that don't look like they were painted after an earthquake?

If you want to see change, be the change.!

Here is our Facebook!

Feel free to start an Instagram, TikTok or blog and share what makes sense to you. Because the 50+ generation doesn't have to adapt to social media - we have to adapt to social media ourselves!

Active life? Yes, thank you!

No one will tell us what is „appropriate for our age.“ Do we want to exercise? We exercise. Do we want to travel? We travel. No one will tell us that we "have nothing left"„.

Forget the outdated notion that after 50, you just go to the spa and plan for retirement. We want to have fun, we want to live, we want to enjoy life to the fullest. And if that means buying red lipstick, starting to learn a new language, or even going skydiving, then why not?

Conclusion: The world must reckon with us!

Ladies, we're here! And we're not invisible. We have experience, we have style, we have perspective. We won't be sidelined just because we turned 50.

So when someone tells you to "slow down," smile and say: "Forget it, I'm just getting started!“

A closing quote

„"Age is not a barrier. It's proof that you've survived everything that could have stopped you." - Unknown, but he was definitely right.
