Red lipstick isn't just for the red carpet

YES – it's for you too! As one of my friends says - aaaa the lady likes a rabbit 😂

Do you know what red lipstick taught me?

That strength is sometimes hidden in the smallest gestures. When I first painted my lips a bold red, I felt like I had overdone it. That it was too much. That everyone would be looking at me.

And you know what? They were watching. But not because I looked ridiculous. Because I looked like a woman who knows what she wants. And that's exactly what red lipstick does - it reminds you that you're strong. Even when you don't quite feel that way.

Why We Were Afraid of Red (and Why We Don't Have to Anymore)

Red lipstick has a reputation. And a pretty bad one – mom said, you'll look like a s..., s...d...adt But it's also dramatic. And bold. A little rebellious. And that's perhaps why we've only reserved it for special occasions – for parties, for dates, for times when we wanted to be someone else.

But what if I told you that red lipstick isn't a costume? That it's simply a tool. Just like your favorite jeans or that sweater that makes you feel great.

I ignored her for a long time - well, not for that long! I thought my lips were too narrow. That I would look stern. That it's not for me. And then I read the story of a woman who wore red lipstick during chemotherapy. She was 58. She was battling cancer. And the lipstick? It was her way of saying, "I'm still here. And I'm not giving up."„

If she could do it – why can't I try?

How to find the right red (because not all are the same)

Hey, there's more than one red. And that's actually great news - because it means yours exists. You just have to find it.

If you have a cooler skin tone (you see more blue than green in your veins), go for a red with a pink or purple/bluish undertone. Cherry, raspberry – these will suit you.

If you have a warm skin tone, try orange-red or coral shades. Bright, warm, juicy.

What if you don't know what your undertone is? Try both. Seriously. Go to the drugstore, test a few shades on your hand—and then look at yourself in daylight. Which shade refreshes you? Which one brightens your face? That one's yours.

Texture also plays a role

Ultra-matte lipsticks are gorgeous, but they can be unforgiving. They're drying. They accentuate every wrinkle. If you want something more forgiving, try velvet—a light sheen but still elegant. Or a tinted balm—soft, subtle, but still red.

I personally love the light shine. It makes my lips look lively. Plus, when I smile, my lips look fuller.

How to apply it (and not be afraid of it)

Red lipstick requires a little more care than that boring beige gloss. But nothing dramatic, I promise!

Prepare your lips.

Exfoliate if your lips are peeling. Balm if they are dry – but not greasy, otherwise your lipstick will smudge. Something waxy that creates a smooth base is ideal.

Use a contour pencil.

I know, I know – it sounds like a big deal. But trust me, this pencil will save you a lot. It will outline your lips, prevent your lipstick from bleeding into your lines, and overall it will last better. You can use a transparent pencil or a pencil in the same shade as your lipstick.

Apply slowly.

This is not a race. I use a brush – I have more control, the result is more precise. But you can also apply directly from the lipstick, just take your time. Start from the center of the lips, then the outline.

Print on a napkin.

I know, it sounds weird. But it works. Gently press the tissue against your lips to remove excess color and make your lipstick last longer. You can even dust the tissue with a light translucent powder to set it all day.

Let the red shine

If you don't want to look like you're from the 80s, and we remember the 80s, and you don't want to look like you're on a merry-go-round today! … keep the rest of your makeup simple. Even out your skin tone, a little mascara, groomed eyebrows – and you're done. Red lipstick is the star. Let it shine.

The same goes for clothing. A bold lipstick will go with a simple outfit – white shirt, black jeans, nothing fancy. Let the red one do the talking.

And yes – it works just as well during the day as it does in the evening. It's not just for a gala. It's also for that coffee with a friend. For a date. For a regular Tuesday when you just want to look great.

What if you're still afraid?

Hey, I get it! Seriously… The red on you can be like a neon sign at first: Look at me! And maybe that's the problem – you don't want to be the center of attention.

But try to approach it differently. It's not about trying to attract attention. It's about reminding yourself: I'm here. And I'm worth it.

Try it at home first. Put on some red lipstick and walk around the apartment normally. Look at yourself in the mirror here and there. Smile at yourself. Give yourself time to get used to it. You don't have to go out right away.

And when you go out in public for the first time? You won't be the first or last woman to wear red lipstick. You'll just be another woman who decided she deserved it.

Why try it now?

Because waiting for the right moment is a trap. The right moment is today. It's Tuesday. Or Thursday. Or any day when you wake up and say to yourself: Today I want to be more me.

Red lipstick won't change you. But it will remind you of who you already are. Strong. Brave. Beautiful.

And if a woman on chemotherapy could do it – so can you.

So yeah – try the red one. Maybe you'll like it. Maybe you won't – and that's okay too. But at least you'll know. And maybe you'll find that the power you've been looking for has been hidden in that little red lip liner all along.

Lift your head. Put on your lips. It's time to shine again.

The bold color of lipstick will brighten up your face even in the sometimes dull gray of everyday life, so please stop resisting it and try it out.

And write to me how it went, you will make me happy!
