The most beautiful moment is coming \u2013 we light the first candle on the Advent wreath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When does Advent really begin?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It's getting a little dark outside. The day is slowly winding down. And right now, as the evening twilight spreads across the sky, the most beautiful moment is coming... The First Sunday of Advent this year falls on November 30, 2025<\/strong>. It's the Sunday between November 27th and December 3rd \u2013 always so that there are four Advent Sundays left until Christmas. Four opportunities to stop. To breathe. To light another light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some, it's just the beginning of the pre-Christmas rush. But for us? It can be something completely different. An invitation to slow down. To return home \u2013 not only physically, but also to ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candle of the Prophets \u2013 First Light<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The first candle is traditionally called the candle of the prophets.<\/a><\/strong> It symbolizes hope. Waiting for something beautiful to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is lit after the first star appears, i.e. in the evening.<\/strong>. Some families let the youngest child light it. But when we are alone, we can enjoy the moment just the way we need to \u2013 in silence, with a cup of tea, with our eyes closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purple color of this candle in Christian tradition signifies contemplation and repentance. But for us, it can simply be the color of twilight. The color of the moment between day and night, when the world becomes silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advent wreath \u2013 circle of eternity<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Maybe you already have it ready at home. Or you are just about to make it. A wreath made of evergreen branches \u2013 fir, spruce, pine \u2013 symbolizes eternity. A circle that has no beginning or end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four candles.<\/a> Four Sundays. Four cardinal directions.<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It doesn't have to be perfect. It can be simple, delicately decorated with pine cones and a little red ribbon. Or rich, full of nuts, dried fruit and tiny gingerbread cookies. Whatever you like. Whatever suits your soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home is getting dressed for the holidays<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Right now, the home is starting to change its face. Mistletoe above the door \u2013 a symbol of protection and love. Holly with red berries. A Christmas wreath on the door that welcomes everyone who comes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can do it slowly. One thing at a time. Corner by corner. There's no need to rush. Advent is four weeks long \u2013 and that's plenty of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A scent that warms<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cinnamon. Clove. Orange. Vanilla.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe you like baking. The first Linz, the first vanilla rolls. Or just a scented diffuser with ginger and cardamom. Something that will give your home a cozy scent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nativity scene without figures yet<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If you have a nativity scene, you can already pull it out. But not the figures yet. They come gradually \u2013 until Christmas Eve, when the Holy Family and little Baby Jesus appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There's something beautiful about it. The waiting. The gradualness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advent as a time for yourself<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

You know, we're often told that we should spend Advent in peace and quiet. And then we find ourselves chasing gifts, recipes, cleaning, and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if we tried it differently this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if Advent was simply a time when we allowed ourselves to:<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

  • Sit by a lit candle and just breathe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Read a book with a mug of hot chocolate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Go for a walk in the winter forest and listen to the silence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Call a friend and chat \u2013 not about responsibilities, but about life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Write a list of things we are grateful for this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Advent is not a race. It is advent \u2013 arrival. Preparation. And most importantly: waiting full of quiet happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A small ritual for the first Sunday of Advent<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    When you sit down to your Advent wreath tonight, try this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Turn off all the lights. Leave only this one candle burning.
    Look at the flame.
    Breathe in slowly. Breathe out.
    And say to yourself quietly: Advent begins now. My Advent.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
