It&#039;s something that can affect any of us\u2014and the good news is, we have plenty of options to reduce our risk. No dry sermons, here&#039;s my &quot;Big Girl&quot; take on preventing the brain fog of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-660fca8f\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">\ud83e\udde1 Why even bother with this?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to better healthcare, we live longer than our grandmothers. But the more years we have, the more chances our brains will go on strike. That doesn&#039;t mean we&#039;re helpless - quite the opposite. Even small changes in habits can work wonders in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-63ae0620\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">My version of small tips<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-38a3ec02\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>The brain wants movement just like the butt.<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Regular exercise = better blood circulation = better brain. You don&#039;t have to run a marathon, just walk, dance in the kitchen or do yoga. The important thing is to do it often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-1b7db446\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Eat to stay sharp<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Mediterranean style \u2013 more vegetables, legumes, fish, less sausages and sugar. It&#039;s not a diet, it&#039;s a lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-ef0c31d2\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Not smoking = more oxygen for the brain.<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> The sooner you quit, the more you win. Play PC games, board games, cards! The brain loves a challenge. The more synapses now, the more reserves for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-886c6731\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Be a social being<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Coffee with a friend, choir singing, volunteering... social life stimulates the brain and protects against depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-43e1a682\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Take care of your heart<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>High blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes \u2013 all of these are not just about the heart, but also about the brain. Get them checked and discuss them with your doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-196b6a5f\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Watch your weight.<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Obesity and diabetes increase the risk of dementia. Better a few pounds down than a few neurons gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-b7590ee6\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Hearing and sight = gateway to the world<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearing or vision loss isolates you and puts you at risk of cognitive decline. Hearing aids and glasses are not a shame, but an investment in your brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-f2282d3d\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Depression and stress<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The brain ages faster under stress. If you feel like it&#039;s too much, talk to a professional. Meditation or breathing exercises can also help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-64390825\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Protect your head.<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Wearing a helmet when cycling or playing sports is not an embarrassment. Traumatic brain injury is one of the strongest risk factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-bab0d774\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong> Breathe clean air<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can, avoid heavily polluted places, ventilate and invest in a filter - air is not only for the lungs, but also for the brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-8f50f82a\"><h3 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>It&#039;s never too late to start.<\/strong>t<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even small changes count now. And I believe that this is the best prevention \u2013 doing things that you enjoy and that make you feel good. <a href=\"https:\/\/velkeholky.org\/en\/muj-denik-a-ja-male-utociste-pro-velke-holky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">And I&#039;m writing a diary!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-3a7eb87b\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">\ud83d\udd11 Main message<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dementia is not a fate we have to wait for. We have many things in our hands \u2013 exercise, food, relationships, education. And these are not boring duties, but opportunities to make life more enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So girls, get up from your screen, stretch, drink some water, call a friend, and try reading something new in the evening.
