From witches to artificial intelligence - human fears change, but the patterns remain the same. We used to burn witches, today we fear AI. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should humanity demonize new technologies? Look at the modern witch hunt.\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It keeps happening again...<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Remember the days when people thought that a fast train would make you faint? Or that witches flew on broomsticks and caused crop failures? Well, these days we're not afraid of lightning or steam locomotives, but we have a new scarecrow - artificial intelligence<\/strong> (AI). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as usual, instead of thinking about how to use it properly, we prefer to be scared by a sci-fi scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear of AI \u2013 friend or threat?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Do you know Asimov's three laws of robotics<\/strong>? They were defined in 1942 by the famous science fiction author Isaac Asimov and were intended to ensure that robots would not harm humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics:<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
 
A robot must obey the orders given to it by a human being except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
 
A robot must protect itself unless such protection conflicts with the first or second law.<\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Later, Asimov added zeroth law<\/strong>:<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This brings us to an interesting question \u2013 how would we apply similar laws to AI today? \ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the reality is that our current AI is more like a handy office assistant than an evil Terminator. And yet, concerns continue to arise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"AI will take our jobs!"
 
"AI will take over and destroy us!"
 
"AI encourages violence, self-harm, and manipulation!"<\/a><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n

And what's the truth? Well... mostly nothing. \ud83d\ude0a<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Witch Hunts and Technology! Games, Media, and Blaming Technology: D\u00e9j\u00e0 vu?<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Do you remember?<\/a>when television was said to be destroying children's brains? Or when rock'n'roll was called the music of the devil? Today, something similar is happening with computer games and AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Games and violence<\/strong>:<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd79 Studies have shown that games like GTA or Call of Duty do not increase aggression<\/strong>, rather, they teach strategy and quick decision-making. The players are not dangerous maniacs, mostly people with better reflexes than the average driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Television and internet<\/strong>:<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcfa Just think of how many times the media has unfairly accused someone because they were "looking for someone to blame." Think of Microsoft's chatbot, for example. Tay<\/strong>, who learned to be racist in 2016 \u2013 not because AI was evil, but because people fed it bad information. The fault wasn\u2019t with the technology, it was with the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deepfakes and disinformation<\/strong><\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd0d \u2013 yes, AI can create fake videos and texts, but it's not the technology's fault, but the fault of those who misuse it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI and work<\/strong> <\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83e\udd16 \u2013 will robots take our jobs? Well, partly yes, but just like steam engines or computers once did. New professions will emerge and people will adapt \u2013 just like they always do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social networks and manipulation<\/strong> <\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd17\u2013 Yes, Facebook or TikTok algorithms can incite radicalization, but not because the AI "wants to", but because it is programmed to maximize viewership. Who programs it? People.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about that?<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd39 AI is not the culprit, but a tool<\/em> \u2013 Instead of bans and panic, we should focus energy on its proper use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd39 Children and technology<\/em> \u2013 Do we need regulation? Yes, but mainly education. Limit passive entertainment, encourage creativity, reading, sports, and puzzle games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udd39 Critical thinking<\/em> \u2013 Education should be a priority. Instead of people being afraid of AI, they should learn to control it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Games, the Brain and the Future of Medicine: What Does Science Say?<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Playing computer games \u2013 good or bad? According to a large American study of two thousand children, it can have a positive effect on cognitive abilities. Children who played at least three hours a day performed significantly better on tests of reaction speed and memory than those who did not play at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scientists emphasize that research is ongoing and that games are not a magic elixir of intelligence. Excessive screen time can also have negative effects on mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And speaking of the brain \u2013 the Czechs are developing a revolutionary application that will help patients with Alzheimer's disease. Thanks to telemedicine, it will be possible to remotely monitor patients' daily routines, remind them of routine tasks and help them maintain their quality of life for as long as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
