When April Fools' Day comes to you, or all about the day of crazy pranks
Ladies, do you know that feeling when your husband tells you he won the lottery and, after your joyful reaction, he adds with a smile, "April Fools!"? Or when your colleague at work tells you with a deadly serious face that your boss has just resigned, only to admit an hour later that she was just playing a prank on you? Yes, April Fools' Day can be a tricky day, but it can also be an incredibly fun day!

Where did April actually come from?
The history of April Fools' Day goes back several centuries. The most common theory links its origin to a change in the calendar in the 16th century. When the French King Charles IX reformed the calendar in 1564 and moved the beginning of the new year from April 1 to January 1, not everyone was aware of the change (imagine a world without notifications on mobile phones and social networks!). Those who continued to celebrate the New Year in April became the target of ridicule and pranks - and the tradition of "April Fools" was born!
April around the world
Although pranks seem to be universal entertainment, different cultures have their own specific April Fools' Day traditions:
France: Here, April Fools' Day victims are called "poisson d'avril" (April fish). Children often stick paper fish on the backs of unsuspecting adults.
Scotland: The Scots even celebrate for two days! They call the first day “fool’s hunt” and the second “tail day” – which sounds a bit suspicious, but it’s just a day when pranks are aimed at the part of the body we sit on.
India: Indians celebrate Holi, a colorful festival that often falls at the end of March, and later added April Fools' Day pranks.
Czechia: In our country, we mainly associate April Fools' Day with innocent pranks, but also with media pranks that occasionally appear in newspapers or on television.
Classic April Fool's Day pranks that still work today
- Fake SMS from a celebrity: Rename a contact on your friend's phone and send her a message as if her favorite actor or singer were writing to her.
- Toothpaste in Oreo cookies: Replace the cream in Oreo cookies with toothpaste. The look on the victim's face is priceless! (But be prepared for revenge.)
- Voice assistants: "Alexa, set an alarm for every 15 minutes from midnight." Your roommates will especially appreciate this joke.
- Colleagues at work will appreciate it: Stick a small piece of paper on the bottom of your computer mouse to stop it from working. A classic that never gets old!
- False pregnancy: Tell your partner you're expecting twins! (Warning: only use in marriages with a strong sense of humor.)
When a prank goes wrong
Remember ladies, the best April Fools' pranks are the ones that make everyone involved laugh, including the victim. Avoid pranks that could humiliate, scare, or otherwise harm someone. No one wants to end up on the couch in their living room or with a cardboard box full of personal belongings in the parking lot outside their office!
And remember – if someone gives you some amazing news on April 1st, double-check before you start celebrating. It might just be another clever April Fool’s joke!
