Annunciation: a holiday that says more than you think...

Annunciation: meaning, traditions and old superstitions that make us stop.

Annunciation 🌿

There are days that are marked on the calendar inconspicuously. Without much preparation, without lights, without gifts. And yet... they have a special depth to them. One that makes you stop – even if just for a moment – and make you think. Annunciation, March 25.

Maybe you've heard the name before. Maybe you haven't. And maybe you once just saw it as "something from the church" that doesn't really concern you.

But it's not that simple.

What actually "happened" that day?

This holiday is old. Really old. It's been celebrated since the 7th century, but the first mentions date back much further – to the 2nd century. And its essence? One single moment.

The moment when, according to Christian tradition, Archangel Gabriel He came to Mary and announced to her that she would conceive a child. Not just any child. But Jesus.

And now be careful – it's not just the "what" that's important.
But most importantly „"as"“.

Maria said yes.

Without certainty. And without a plan. Also without instructions.

„"Let it be done to me according to your word"“

Honestly? Fast forward to today... how many of us could say that?

It's not just about faith. It's about trust!

I'm not the type to push you into religion. Not at all.
But some things have an overlap, even if you don't believe it. This is one of them.

The Annunciation is actually about the moment when life changes direction.
He doesn't ask. He doesn't prepare you. He just comes.

And you have two options:
to tighten up… or to say yes.

And now, let's face it – how many times in our lives have we stood exactly here?

Spring, earth and a special peace🌱

This holiday is not just a church holiday. It is also deeply rooted in folk traditions. And these are sometimes even more interesting than the liturgy itself.

It was said, for example, that it was on the Annunciation that „"opens the earth".

It sounds a bit poetic… but it actually makes sense. It's the end of winter. Something is breaking. Something is awakening.

Our grandmothers believed that on that day one should not dig in the ground. That one should not disturb something that is being born.

And you know what? Maybe it's not just about the clay. Maybe it's about us too. About the fact that we don't always have to solve everything, push it, fix it.
Sometimes it's enough to... let things grow or take it as it is!

Traditions that seem strange today (but there's something about them)🌼

When you look at old customs, you might smile.

Girls were not supposed to comb their hair so as not to lose their beauty.
Nothing was to be borrowed or taken out of the house.
Work was kept to a minimum.
And the food? It was ideally prepared the day before.

A bit far-fetched from today's perspective, right?

But if you look at it differently...

  • It was a day of peace.
  • day of stopping
  • a day when nothing "had to happen"„

And that's not so funny anymore, it sounds much better❣

Because honestly, when was the last time we had a day when we they didn't have to do anything at all?

💭 Little „aha“s you can take from this

It's not about whether you believe.
It's not about whether you go to church.

But maybe it's this:

The Annunciation reminds you that some things in life don't come when you plan them... but when you are ready to receive them.

And that sometimes the power lies in saying:
„"Okay. I don't know how. But I'm going to do it."“

And finally... between us

I'm not particularly religious, personally. But these old holidays I'm always attracted to something anyway.

Maybe because they carry within them the peace that we lost somewhere along the way.
Maybe because they remind us that life is not all about performance and planning.

And perhaps because some traditions – even if they sound a little strange or even controversial – have wisdom in them that we shouldn't completely discard.

So what...
Will you try to slow down a bit this March 25th?

Just a little.
No regrets. No performance.

Maybe that's the whole magic.
