30 Gentle New Year's Resolutions for Big Girls

You sit with a cup of hot tea and think – what do I really want for the new year? Not big changes. Just… subtle shifts. Little joys. A moment for yourself❣

New Year as a kind breath

We, women, who already know that time is the most precious jewel, stand on the threshold of a new year. For us, it is no longer about drastic diets or whipping ourselves into performance. It is rather about wise balancing and the desire to illuminate our lives with harmony. The turn of the year is a wonderful milestone – an opportunity to leave the old behind and open our arms to everything new and exciting that awaits us.

This year, let's not give ourselves "orders", but rather lovingly promise ourselves small joys that will caress our souls. Here is inspiration for your days, divided into small steps that will easily become part of your home.

Why make resolutions at all?

Do you know what is most beautiful about the turn of the year? The hope. The feeling that we can start over – even if just a little differently. Not because there is something wrong with us. But because we deserve care, attention and joy.

And resolutions? They're not orders. They're little gifts we give ourselves.

sparkler, lightbulb, spray candle, spark, star splatter, bright, burn, glow, light, stars, starfire, sparkle, new year greeting, sylvester, new year's day, congratulations, pyromanik, transparent, sparkling idea, lightbulb, lightbulb, lightbulb, lightbulb, lightbulb, spark, spark, stars, congratulations, congratulations

30 small resolutions for joy and peace

1. Drink more water

  • Why: Our bodies and skin at this age call for hydration more than ever. Many of us live in a chronic lack of water without knowing it. The skin is dry, fatigue comes faster, headaches occur more often. And yet so little is enough! A glass in the morning, a bottle on the table, a cup of herbal tea in the evening.
  • How to handle it: Find a beautiful glass bottle that you enjoy looking at. If you tend to forget while using the computer or reading, try an app on your phone – it will remind you, based on your weight and age, when it’s time for a sip of freshness. Try placing your bottle where you can see it – by your computer, on the kitchen counter, by your bed. And if you’re comfortable with technology, an app like WaterMinder will gently remind you: „Hey, drink up.“ No pressure, just a kind reminder.

2. Write down your dreams

  • Why: Dreams are a mirror of our wise soul and can tell us things and answers that we cannot hear in our waking state. Our dreams are full of symbols, emotions, and untold stories.
  • How to handle it: Put a nice notebook and pen on your nightstand. Immediately after waking up, write down just snippets, but especially your feelings – the emotions from your dream are often the key you are looking for. Don’t write down the whole story – it disappears just as quickly. Capture the feelings. „I felt light.“ „I felt cramped.“ „I was flying.“ Over time, you will see patterns. And maybe even something more.

3. Create a gratitude journal

  • Why: Focusing on the good will bring humility and warm energy to your life. Gratitude changes perspective. The day can be hard – but when you remember the morning sun, the smile of the shopkeeper, the warm tea… the world looks different.
  • How to handle it: Every evening, before you turn off the lamp, write down the little things that made you happy that day. It could even be the smell of coffee! A few words. „Today I was grateful for…“ And you’ll see – in a month you’ll be smiling when you read those lines.

4. Scent your home with aromatherapy

  • Why: Scents like lavender or sandalwood can instantly dissolve all-day stress and headaches.
  • How to handle it: Get a quality essential oil and an aroma lamp. Make it a ritual – coming home equals your favorite calming scent. Great calming scents are: Lavender, Blood Orange, Ylang-ylang, Sandalwood or even a combination of 100% essential oils.

5. One book for pleasure every month

  • Why: A moment with a book is a time when the world stops and belongs only to you. Reading is an escape, a relaxation, an inspiration.
  • How to handle it: Just a few pages every night before bed. Choose authors who touch your soul, not those you "should" read. Just ten pages a night. That's it. You'll have a book read in a month. And most importantly – have a ritual of calm.

6. Try an information diet

  • Why: The constant noise of news and the internet is unnecessarily exhausting. Unsubscribe from newsletters you don't read.
  • How to handle it: Try turning off your phone notifications once a week and just being. The world will keep spinning and you will rest in silence. Try „quiet hours“ – say, starting at eight in the evening. No messages, no social media. Just you, a book, music, peace.

7. Surround yourself with plants

  • Why: The color green is calming, and fresh flowers bring life and joy to your home. Plants purify the air, calm the mind, and bring life.
  • How to handle it: Buy evergreen plants for your home and office that you like and smell good. Flowers on your desk. An herb corner on the window. Greenery all around. Or try the fat ones, They are easy and may even bring you some money!

8. Write morning to-do lists

  • Why: You will clarify your priorities and clear your head of the chaos of what you have to accomplish. Checking off completed tasks is an amazing feeling.
  • How to handle it: Write a to-do list over tea in the morning. The feeling of checking off an item is very satisfying, as is looking back at your completed tasks in the evening!

9. Start with breathing exercises

  • Why: A few deep breaths will filter out stress and prepare the body for a restful sleep.
  • How to handle it: Just 2 minutes before falling asleep in bed – just focus on your breath and see how relieved you will feel. Lie down, close your eyes. Breathe slowly – four breaths in, four breaths out. Breathe through your nose and repeat.

10. Cut out toxic relationships

  • Why: At our age, we no longer need to waste time with people who only drain our energy.
  • How to handle it: Gently but consistently limit contact with those who bring only negativity into your life. I think you know how to do it!

11. Praise yourself for even the little things

  • Why: We are often too hard on ourselves, we deserve our own kindness. Stop constantly criticizing yourself internally and thinking about what you failed at. It's time to turn it around and praise yourself even for the little things.
  • How to handle it: Every day, find one thing to appreciate about yourself – like your patience or a great lunch – or how amazing and wonderful you are ❣❤

12. Have a regular dinner with friends

  • Why: Regularly meeting with the people you love. Sharing stories and laughter with loved ones is the best medicine for everything.
  • How to handle it: Set aside one fixed day a month to get together for a good meal and just chat. Or coffee and cake with your friends! Friendship is like a plant – it needs care. And in our age, it is more precious than gold.

13. Try traveling without a map and without a destination.

  • Why: Adventure doesn't end with youth, all you need is courage and not planning anything.
  • How to handle it: Buy a train ticket to a random place in the Czech Republic and be surprised by what you discover there. Just don't plan anything and adapt to the situation.

14. Try something new every week

  • Why: Life at fifty isn't about routine - it's about discovery. We still have so much time to try anything!
  • How to handle it: Make a „I want to try“ list – and choose one thing from it every week. Maybe just a little thing. But a little thing that makes you laugh! Or a new recipe. A different route on a walk. A book by an author you don’t know. There are so many possibilities!

15. Print old and new photos

  • Why: Tangible memories in an album have much more magic than those on your phone.
  • How to handle it: Set aside one afternoon a month to sort through your photos and have them developed. Buy a beautiful album!

16. Start taking the stairs

  • Why: Every natural movement counts and your physique will thank you soon. Every step counts. And stairs are free fitness.
  • How to handle it: Skip the elevator whenever possible. It's a small gift to your heart. Start with one floor. Then two. Your body will get used to it—and you'll be stronger.

17. Make it „quiet“ at home“

  • Why: The constant background noise of the television or radio prevents us from hearing our own thoughts.
  • How to handle it: Designate an hour a day or at least a week when there will be complete silence at home. Just you and your peace. Relax and detox from all noises.
  • There are even special stays for this!
Type of stayMain benefitWho is it suitable for?
Dark therapyBrain reboot, deep eye restPeople under extreme stress or seeking self-discovery.
Staying in silenceOrganizing thoughts, stopping the hustle and bustlePeople who need to make important decisions.
Solitude / GlampingConnection with nature, peacePeople who just want to "blow off" without rules.
country, nature, river, water, south bohemia, šumava, Česko, Czechia

18. Discover the beauties of the Czech Republic

  • Why: We often look for beauty far away, yet it's right under our noses. Trips close to home. Places you've heard of but never been to.
  • How to handle it: Plan a trip to a place in our country where you haven't been before. A leisurely walk or bike ride is enough. Make a map of "I want to see" - and take one trip every month. With your partner, with a girlfriend, or alone. Whether it's a castle, a garden, or just a nice café in an unknown town.
  • For me, it's absolutely great to travel around the Czech Republic as one big food trip., whether one follows in the footsteps of the legendary "reports" of Zdeněk Pohlreich from Yes, boss!, maps businesses based on famous food YouTubers, or simply relies on proven tips and recommendations from acquaintances.

19. Reduce unnecessary waste

  • Why: Less stuff, less waste, more space. Every thing we throw away that we don't use is a relief. At fifty, we already know that we don't need as much as we thought.
  • How to handle it: Start with the little things – sort your waste and don't buy things you don't need. At least one drawer every month. Go through it, throw it away or donate what you don't really need.

20. Try a new sport (like yoga or the more challenging TRX)

  • Why: Discovering new movement options can reveal a hidden passion.
  • How to handle it: There are dozens of options to choose from. Sign up for a class that appeals to you – whether it's swimming, tennis or calm yoga. And starting ballet or belly dancing at fifty is epic 😊

21. Stop gossiping

  • Why: Talking about others nicely mainly improves our own inner karma!
  • How to handle it: Try to think positively about people and let negative comments flow past you. Gossip is simply not good for anyone.
  • „"If your words are not better than silence, it is better not to speak them at all - especially when it comes to people who are not here to defend themselves." A WORD YOU SPEAK CANNOT BE TAKEN BACK!

22. Treat yourself to a relaxing bath

  • Why: Water and heat are the perfect tool for psychohygiene.
  • How to handle it: At least once a week, take time for an herbal or salt bath.

23. Leave the car at home sometimes

  • Why: A walk in the fresh air clears your head better than driving in traffic!
  • How to handle it: Try walking to the grocery store or post office, or get off public transport one stop earlier. As long as you can – you go on foot! Walking is fascinating in that it is the simplest activity, but it has an incredible impact on both the body and the mind.

24. Scan your social media

  • Why: Watching hundreds of profiles takes up time that we could dedicate to ourselves.
  • How to handle it: Stop wasting your time on digital scheming and clean up your social networks: only keep friends with those who truly inspire you, entertain you, or are your real friends, because following hundreds of people just out of obligation takes up space for things that have real meaning – like our blog. Big girls! 😉

25. Try volunteering

  • Why: Helping others brings an unmistakable feeling of gratitude and usefulness.
  • How to handle it: Find a non-profit organization whose work makes sense to you and offer a few hours of your time. Helping animals also makes a huge difference - whether it's walking dogs at shelters, caring for injured creatures at rescue stations, or helping with feeding and maintenance at animal shelters.

26. Learn something new – without pressure

  • Why: As adults, we learn for joy, not for grades, and that is liberating.
  • How to handle it: Sign up for a course (like aromatherapy or languages) that you've been wanting to take for a long time.
  • This is exactly what I'm trying now - for example, I'm terrible at English and I admit that I'm quite lazy, but I'm learning not to put too much pressure on myself and I prefer to try painting, in small steps, in which I've found incredible beauty and peace.

27. Organize your emails

  • Why: Digital order saves time and, most importantly, nerves.
  • How to handle it: Unsubscribe from newsletters you don't read, create folders as needed, and mark everything unnecessary as spam! Nobody wants to get 50 emails a day!!!

28. Overcome a small fear

  • Why: Overcoming even small fears strengthens us internally. We are big girls now and we won't be scared of anything just like that!
  • How to handle it: Take small steps – do something that makes you proud, and watch yourself grow. Your self-confidence will increase too.

29. Try new foods

  • Why: A varied menu is an adventure for our senses.
  • How to handle it: Every week, buy one food item (like an exotic fruit) at the store that you've never eaten.

30. Take time for yourself every day

  • Why: After a whole day of caring for others, you deserve to be "unavailable" for a while.
  • How to handle it: Announce at home the exact time when you do not want to be disturbed - whether while reading, taking a bath, listening to music or a movie, or just looking out the window.
orchestra, music, orchestra division, ensemble, played, big band, show, instrument, concert, violin, stringed instruments, orchestra, orchestra, orchestra, orchestra, orchestra

How can we really maintain these joys?

To prevent your resolutions from fading with the first January frost, be kind to yourself.:

  • Start gradually: Just choose one or two resolutions that resonate with you the most.
  • Two minutes is enough: If you don't feel like doing something, promise yourself that you'll only do it for 2 minutes. You'll often find yourself staying with the activity longer.
  • Make it nice: The habit must be pleasant – if you want to read more, prepare your favorite tea and a warm blanket, light a candle or aroma lamp... and yes, you will look forward to it again!
  • Celebrate progress: Don't wait for the "big goal." Praise yourself for every day you take a moment for yourself.

The world is one big laid out menu full of flavors, experiences, and places waiting just for you, so don't let age stop you - it's just an empty number that in no way determines when you should start fulfilling your dreams or how to savor life to the fullest! 🥂

My dear big girls, may your new year be full of warm moments and kind changes that will make you happy every day.
