Secrets of the Night Sky: Shooting Stars

Orionids, or Taurids – preferably both!

Shooting stars and wishes come true

Ladies, get ready for a magical spectacle! October and November are the times when the night sky lights up with shooting stars. There is something deeply magical, almost ethereal, when the dark sky is pierced by the brilliant flash of a meteor. It is a moment when time stops and that old, beautiful belief awakens in you: A shooting star, so make a wish! Let's take a look together at the cosmic dance that nature offers us on autumn nights and recall the magic that is associated with our most secret dreams.

Orionids: The Most Abundant "Tears" of Halley's Comet

The first of the autumn meteor showers, the Orionids, has a deep connection to the famous Halley's Comet. It is the debris from that comet that brings us this abundant shower. Just thinking about observing dust thousands of years old, left behind by such an iconic comet, adds a touch of mystery to the whole experience.

The Orionids shower was named after the constellation Orion. It looks as if the meteors are "flying out" from a point located in this constellation - we call that point the radiant.

When to look at the sky (in 2025): The activity of the shower occurs gradually from October 2 to November 7.

Best Night (Maximum 2025): Maximum falls on October 21st. And we have great news: In 2025, the maximum of the shower will occur on the new moon, which is ideal conditions for observing!

Ideal time: The best time to observe the „shooting stars“ is between 1 and 5 a.m. During the maximum, you can see up to dozens of meteors per hour in a dark sky far from cities! In some years, it can even be 50 to 70 meteors per hour.

Taurids: A Slow but Brilliant Spectacle

Another stunning shower is called the Taurids.. It is a regular shower associated with Comet Encke, and because it is visible in late October and early November, it is sometimes nicknamed the Halloween meteoroids. The shower has two branches, the Northern and Southern, named after the radiant in the constellation Taurus.

There aren't many Taurids, typically only about 5 per hour, but the magic lies in something else: You have a chance to see a fireball! A fireball is a very bright meteor that can light up the sky like a full moon. That's the moment that takes your breath away.

When to look at the sky (in 2025): The joint maximum of the Northern and Southern Taurids is expected around November 5th. The moon will be full, but the chance to see this magical fireball is worth it! The activity of the shower ranges from October 28 to November 17. There are even cases when the Taurid fireballs have reached the brightness of the full moon and illuminated the night landscape!

A Moment of Magic: A Shooting Star and a Wish

Whether you're looking at the Orionids or the Taurids, the most magical moment comes when you see it – a shooting star.

It is said that the wish you make in that single second when a meteor shines in the sky will come true. It has deep, mystical roots. At that moment, your entire being is focused on one dream, one secret goal. Take advantage of that ethereal moment.

How to make a wish correctly?

Believe in your wish. There is no time for doubt. You must want it, sincerely and with all your heart.

Keep yourself in mind. Wish for what concerns you personally – your happiness, health, or perhaps better looks. Wishes that concern others should not be selfish or manipulative..

Have the most important things ready. Although a meteor usually comes as a surprise, try to be aware in advance of what is most important and realistic for you right now.

Keep quiet about it. An old superstition says that you must not tell anyone your wish, otherwise it will not come true. Keep that glimmer in your heart to yourself.

When you succeed, the feeling that luck itself has smiled on you and that you have the support of the entire universe will fill you with new energy. Go towards your dream.

I wish you, dear ladies, that every falling star carries the most beautiful, most secret and most achievable dream on its tail! Don't forget to take a warm blanket, a mug of hot tea and set off far from the city lights towards the magic of the night sky.
